Smart EQ forfour Review. The Smart EQ forfour is a 4-seat, 4-door electric car. It’s a fun, well-built EV, ideal for town or city driving. It’s larger than its tiny brother the EQ fortwo, but is still a small, easy to manoeuvre electric vehicle which you can get into a tight space.. The old name for these Smart electric cars was “Smart ED”, with ED standing for Electric Drive.
There are three trim levels on offer to smart forfour EQ customers - 'passion advanced', 'pulse premium' and 'prime exclusive'. The base 'passion advanced' version costs from just over £18,535, once the government's generous £2,500 Plug-in car grant is taken into account. That puts this smart against tough competition.
The Smart EQ Forfour is an electric four-seater city car, with a 17.6kWh battery powering an 82PS electric motor. It has a range of around 67 miles and can cover 0-62mph in 12.7 seconds. Max speed is limited to 80mph. A 22kW Wallbox will charge the EQ Forfour to 80 per cent in around 40 minutes, while a 7kw unit will take 2.5 hours.

Smart now sells only electric city cars (under the EQ name). As well as the two-seat Smart EQ Fortwo, the four-door Smart EQ Forfour offers four seats and extra space. All-electric rivals in the city car class are rare but include the VW e-Up and Fiat 500e.
